19.04.05 Congratulations to OPS member Colin Harrison

He has been awarded his Associateship from the British Photographic Exhibitions (ABPE) having gained 400 acceptances at National Exhibitions plus the required 20 awards in my last 100 acceptances.

Rushden National slide and digital Exhibition
Ivor Porter has gained a GOLD MEDAL for the Best Natural History Slide with his Migration image.
Acceptances also for Don Byatt and Colin Harrison awarded a GOLD MEDAL for the Best Contemporary Slide titled The Crossing.
Gary Irvine also had three digital images accepted Zanzibari Beach, Hows About It? and Kilimanjaro

04.04.05 OPS member success in Photo2005

Four OPS members have had successful images accepted into Photo2005 - The National Exhibition run by the Vale of Evesham Camera Club. Gordon Roberts and Dave McKay had one acceptance. Don Byatt had four images accepted. Gary Irvine had six images accepted and one of these - "Enjoying His Studies" - received a Commended ribbon in the Colour section. Colin Harrison achieved nine acceptances with a Selectors Medal for "Rally" and a highly Commended PAGB Ribbon for "The Parade" both in the Monochrome section, a Highly Commended PAGB ribbon for "Snow Wood" and a Commended Ribbon for " Joe's Barber Shop" both in the Creative Section. 28.02.05 OPS member success!
Shelagh Roberts is the latest OPS member to achieve success in the Digital Photo Art journal's annual competition. Shelagh's outstanding picture of a withering sunflower head gained 3rd place and ensures Shelagh's promotion to a higher group for the 2005 competition.

19.11.04 OPS members in print again!
A 4 page portfolio of work by OPS member Philip Joyce is featured in the Oct/Nov issue of Digital Photo Art. Philip describes his influences and recent work on the lives of older people.

Jeff Coles wins Division one round 4 of Digital Photo arts competition with his image Abandoned.

01.11.04 DIGICOMP SUCCESS FOR OPS!
OPS members did really well in Marlow CC's DIGICOMP 04 competition. In the Photo Realism section Colin Harrison was Runner Up on 20 points with "Kath".
In the "Artistic Licence" section Colin went one better by winning with his "Joe's Barber Shop". Joint Runners - Up on 19 points were Douglas Vernimmen with Emma and Don Byatt with "What Lies Beneath".
Other OPS entrants were Steve Field, Phil Joyce and Adrian Triggs, who all had respectable scores. So a good all round performance by OPS members. Full Digicomp results can be found on www.marlowcc.org

29.10.04 OPS Member Published in Photography Monthly
OPS member Gary Irvine achieved 7th place in the Photography Monthly
"Reflections" theme round of their Photographer Of The Year
competition. His photograph of a Ferris wheel reflected in the glass
front of a Birmingham building is published in the November issue.

15.10.04 More prize winning pictures
Philip Joyce's picture, 'Emma' was one of the winners in Digital Photo magazines Creative Challenge competition. The picture can be seen in the November issue and Philip wins a HiTi 730PS Dye Sub Printer .
15.10.04 International exhibition acceptances
Both Gordon and Gaynor Roberts have enjoyed success at international level with six acceptances in to the Northern and Swansea photo exhibitions. congratulations to them both.
13.10.04 ARPS awards for OPS members.
Chris O’Neil gained his applied ARPS, with a panel of pictures documenting a Super bike racing team.
This was his first attempt at ARPS level, he was delighted to received a unanimous vote for his panel from the assessors.

Jeff Coles gained his Visual Arts ARPS on his first attempt also receiving a unanimous vote for his panel of images depicting dreams and nightmares.

Both panels of pictures are on our photo awards pages along with accounts of the day from the members.

03.10.04 Congratulations to OPS Member Don Byatt.
He has just been elected to the PAGB List of Approved Judges. This means he is now eligible to judges national events such as the Warwick slides and also the PAGB Distinctions. Only five judges in the CACC have this honour - and three of them are OPS members. Colin Harrison, Peter Upton, and now Don.

"We have the big honour to present the slide show at the largest Arabian photo art festival, the DOHA CULTURAL FESTIVAL in March 2005 in Qatar. In addition to this we are doing a CHINA SLIDE SHOW TOUR in autumn 2005 including shows in Shanghai and Hangzhou. We would like to use your slide, "Joe's barber shop"

ARPS Success
Philip Joyce is the latest OPS member to gain an 'Associate' distinction award from the Royal Photographic Society, with his visual art submission entitled "The Lives of Older People" receiving a unanimous vote of approval from the assessors panel, that comprised four Fellows of the RPS. Philip's panel of 15 B&W prints portrayed moments in the lives of older people; showing ordinary people, in ordinary situations, which are seen across the United Kingdom every day of the week. OPS members were well represented

In the selection of prints for the Royal Photographic Society's Thames Valley Region annual exhibition of member's work. Gary Irvine and Colin Harrison both received Highly Commended certificates from selector Sylvia Keith ARPS, whilst Philip Joyce, Peter Upton and Don Byatt all had work selected. The exhibition will show at Harrow Arts Center between 7th~27th August.

OPS member Harry Harris CPAGB

Was named this week as the winner of the 2004 Royal National Lifeboat Institute (www.rnli.org.uk) photographic competition and not content with that Harry also took second place! Fellow member John Boteler encouraged OPS members to enter and provided entry forms for the club. Harry's winning picture of a gull set against a stormy sea was also accepted in the latest Southampton International Photographic Exhibition. Harry collects a £50 cheque for his winning picture, but has declined the second prize of £50 of photo vouchers and asked the RNLI to use them for further fundraising. Harry was delighted with his success!

OPS are 4th in the country and that’s official.

After a truly team effort from our club members and the external competition secretary we won 4th place in the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain annual competition.
We came first in our federation’s heat at Wycombe to go forward to the PAGB final.

OPS members work, published again!

Peter Warrington CPAGB has made it again into the pages of Practical Photography, with his inspiring Monochrome image of the Selfridges building in Birmingham.

Peters picture was placed 5th in the Urban Landscape category, the judges had this to say about his picture.

' Peter has captured the fascinating forms of Selfridges new facade. The judges were pleased to see another good example of monochrome being used'

OPS members have been successful in the PAGB 2004 Inter-Federation Print Exhibition.

Phil Joyce DPAGB gained two acceptances with On My Doorstep" and "Penrhiwceiber"; Don Byatt ARPS MPAGB gained a PAGB Ribbon with "Sinister Pair".
The standard of work submitted to this exhibition was extremely high, being the best work from all the federations in the UK. So congratulations to the above for their successes.
For those wishing to view the exhibition, this will be on show at Gayton Road Library in Harrow for two weeks commencing 19th July. The exhibition will then go on national tour.

Inter-Club Slide Championship Finals

Under the careful guidance of Colin Harrison, OPS have again beaten strong competition from other clubs in the Chilterns Association to win a place in the Photographic Alliance of Gt. Britain's national final at Warwick on 10th July. This will see OPS competing against the top clubs from across the UK. It has been a great achievement to get so far in this competition and is a true reflection of the quality of work from OPS members this year, as well as Colin's selection skills! Whether we win lose or draw, this will be a fantastic day of photography for everyone to enjoy.
