1. I have been interested in photography since the mid 1950s

2. I started taking pictures to complement my activities as a touring and racing cyclist. I was interested in painting and wanted to take photographs of the places I visited on my travels as a National competitor, so I could paint them. The highlight of my cycling career was participating in the First Tour of Britain and the Manx International Road Race. However, after a serious road accident in 1958 I had to give up competitive racing so I became more interested in the photography, although I am still interested in cycling

3. As far as I can remember, the first serious photograph I took was a snow scene of Broad Street, in Oxford.

4. All my photographic awards are for coloured slides. These include, F R P S (Fellowship of the Royal Photographic Society,1989,) F I P F (Fellowship of the Irish Photographic Federation, 1990,) E.F I A P (Excellence Federation de L'Art Photographie, 1997) M P A G B (Master of Photographic Alliance of Great Britain,1995)
A P A G B (Award for Meritorious Service to Photography 1998) B P E 5* (British Photographic Exhibitions acceptances 1999) I have exhibited in many parts of the world, including India and China. I have been a Judge and Lecturer for almost 30years and have been to clubs all over the UK, including several visits to Scotland. Also to Southern and Northern Ireland (where my talk was interrupted by a terror alert!) and have lectured and judged in the Channel Islands on two occasions.

5. My first camera was a Yashica Minster, a 35mm range finder. This proved to be totally unsuitable , so I then bought a SLR Practica and a telephoto lens.
Working part-time in Morris Photographic shop I was soon persuaded to change to Nikon equipment and have used that ever since. I currently use a Nikon D100 digital camera,
which I find invaluable and would not wish to purchase anything different.

6. I have been a member of several different clubs to improve my photography, including Bicester CC, Milton Keynes CC (President) and Solihul CC but have been a member of Oxford PS in 2 spells for approx 17years, being both Programme and Competition Secretary during that time. Being a member of a club like Oxford CC allows you to see work from other members and gives access to discussion and help, if needed

7. My favourite and most successful picture has been a shot of Brill windmill, taken very early in my photographic career. It was used extensively for national competitions and after being published in a magazine was used on television for an advert for Hoya.

8. I find any situation where the subject has been 'set up' is very difficult to cope with. I prefer to work in a natural situation. Most of my work has been Candid shots around the streets of Oxford and other City centres. For many years I used Agfa slide film, but more recently have found Fuji slide film to be more suitable. I prefer non-processed paid film so I can have my films processed locally to allow for any adjustments.
.
9. These days most of my images are taken with a digital camera and printed by computer. Many of the images I have taken are never seen because they do not come up to my expectations and are discarded.

10. I enjoy the work of many other photographers and perhaps I am influenced by images I see rather than a particular author.
